Tower Hill's Carmody

Tower Hill's Carmody is our foundation mare. She is a 1993 dark dun mare by *Chiltern Copa of Tower Hill out of Tower Hill's Glendalough (*Whitewood Galway Bay). She has a beautiful face, a golden eye, a big motor and stride, and loves to jump.

he has evented at Novice level, done hunter classes, appeared at Equine Affaire in Springfield MA, and been pony clubbed.

Tower Hill's Carmody will be 30 in May. With her Cushings and geriatric gut, she is happiest strolling around our back lawn or ball field. She has an occasional young rider when she is lucky, and she specializes in brushing and treats from little hands.

Beautiful Carmody turned 28 in 2021. She still gives rides to the grandkids- Natalia and Liam and she loves to be groomed or to have treats.

She is top dog when turned out with Breeze, and seems happiest when she is eating but looks slimmer this spring for no reason. She may be headed to Different Drummer Farm for pony camp which she has enjoyed for previous summers too. Her energy on the lunge line always surprises me.

Tower Hill's Carmody at age 24 spent the summer of 2017 at Different Drummer Farm again, Candia NH. She is much beloved by Jodi Fortier's grandchildren, and my grandhildren got to take lessons on her much of the summer. In addition she is used as a reliable walk trot pony for Jodi's summer camp and riding lessons.

I am lucky to have a new neighbor named Keagan who thinks Carmody is the cat's pajamas. We took some shots of her on Carmody at Christmas before we had much snow!  She is a really cute rider and will hope to get more riding in when the weather is better. Carmody looks great for her age.

Tower Hill's Carmody started 2016 by attending the Region 1 Field Day where her friend Cailey Fay rode her for Joy Congdon who thought they were  a lovely pair. Cailey shared her lesson with Julia Latham on Troutranch Whimsey.

Then Cailey and Carmody went to the Emerging Dressage Riders Clinic at Pinelands Equestrian Center in Maine.

Carmody headed to Different Drummer Farm in Candia NH where she was a kids' hunter pony and took her turn in the summer camp program giving lessons to my two grandkids, Myrick (9) and Pender (6) Oxnard. Carmody excelled at all these activities this summer. Now she is home babysitting for Westerly for the winter.

Tower Hill's Carmody came home to Exeter in the fall of 2015, where she is babysitting the fillies and teaching my grandkids to ride. She seems happy as a clam and is getting back her portly profile.

Tower Hill's Carmody and her new young rider Cailey Fay from East Haddam CT had a great year in 2014.

They ended their first year together by participating in the Region 1 Connemara Breed Demo at Equine Affaire in W Springfield MA in November. Cailey had a big group of cheerleaders and coaches, and had personally choreographed music which did NOT PLAY in their musical freestyle. They went on with great aplomb and both were super stars. Carmody did not notice the music was missing.

In early August they competed at Lendon's Dressage Festival, part of the Dressage 4 Kids program. There are about 125 kids competing, ages 8 to 18. Cailey and Carmody won the 11 year old Elementary division, and received two big trophies for High Point Connemara: the Jaqueline Harris Trophy and the ACPS trophy. Then Cailey wrote a wonderful essay about her schoolmaster, Carmody, and they won the Umego Perpetual Trophy for high point rider on a schoolmaster as well.

Now they are working on their cross country courses and meeting clinicians who recognize Carmody as they go.

Tower Hill's Carmody is having a great time as a pony club mount for Cailey Faye in CT. They are perfecting their xc jumping and cleaning up in small dressage shows in preparation for a big appearance at Lendon Grey's Dressage 4 Kids in Saugerties NY in August 2014.

At Equine Affaire in the fall of 2013 I met Maryjane and Cailey Fay who is a petite 10 year old Pony Clubber from East Haddam CT. They were looking for a bigger pony for her, and someone had said what they needed was a Connemara. They came and tried Carmody and it seemed to be a perfect match. So Carmody is in CT and taking lessons with Ann Guptil of Fox Ledge Farm. I cannot wait to go visit. Not a bad career change for a 20 year old pony who is done having foals. I am sure she will take good care of Cailey and she and Maryjane will take good care of Carmy too.

For 2010, Carmody has been leased by Julia Latham (left), age 9, of Cadbury Woods Farm in Sanbornton NH. Her mom Elizabeth is an event rider and trainer, and Julia has been looking for a next pony. She came to visit and actually cantered on Carmody on her maiden voyage. So far the reports are good, and we will see them at the Region 1 show.

Tower Hill's Carmody, age 17, came to the 2010 Region 1 Connemara Show with Julia and Elizabeth Latham and stunned us all by winning the Grand Champion in Hand Trophy. She also completed her dressage test and in hand trail with Julia and won both the Walk Trot Equitation and the Walk Trot Pleasure. Great work team!!

TH Carmody's 2009 foal, Presto (below), is by Tre Awain Dobh Mcduff (Tre Awain Ginger Blue x Tre Awain Roisen Dobh). Dobh Mcduff is a black 14.2 hand stallion at Journey's End Farm in New York. He has had many successful performance offspring including Ballywhim Ardan Mor who is an upper level dressage stallion and JEF Sir Lancelot who is competing in eventing the midwest.

In 2008 after being bred Carmody spent the summer at Different Drummer Farm in Candia NH with Jodi Fortier who used to ride her sire Copa. Jodi has a busy children's summer riding camp and kids HJ program and Carmody was in high demand. She takes great care of her riders and they all love her - a great confidence builder.

Carmody is again proving to be a real success and "good at everything" as a pony club pony in her new lease home for 2007 with Libby MacCauley.

Tower Hill's Carmody and Libby MacCauley finished the 2007 season with a D2 Pony Club rally, and the Hunter Under Saddle Championship at the Lincoln (MA.) and the Weston/Wayland (MA.) Hunter Jumper shows. Carmody also won the lead line class with Ellie MacCauley up. Carmody and Libby made an appearance at Equine Affaire in the Breed Demo where Carmody was sporting powder blue, Libby's favorite color.

In 2006 she was been leased by Maggie Petersen of Elk Creek Connemaras in Kewadin MI, and they passed their C2 rating.

Carmody is happiest when she is being worked and appreciated. We breed her in May, ride her until November, then she foals in April and we get back on.

She has also had five dun foals.

Two fillies are by *Canal Laurinston (Chip), one gelding by Aladdin's Denver, one by Elphin Song Sparrow and the latest colt is by TA Dobh McDuff. They are all great performers as she is.
