Paradox Presto

2009 - 2025

Paradox Presto was a smokey black gelding (Tre Awain Dobh Mcduff x Tower Hill's Carmody). Presto went to greener pastures in 2025, suffering from that scourge of the Connemara breed, laminitis. He is greatly missed by Kathy Nebel and by his brother Connor whom he used to hack with.

I went to visit Paradox Presto and Kathy Nebel in April of '23. She has 4 Connemara geldings, all one form of buckskin or another.

Kathy and Presto have started Working Equitation this year and they can even spear the ring on that bull (substitute) with her Garotchka Pole at the canter. Very impressive!

Paradox Presto, now 14, is loving Working Equitation with Kathy Nebel in Tryon SC. they have also started jumping and collecting ribbons at local two phases.

Paradox Presto is back in action in the spring of 2021 after an injury in the fall of 2020 being on rehab all winter. His owner, Kathy, has decided to try trail riding and XC schooling and jumping to work on his braveness. No surprise that he loves to jump! According to the horse whisperer, he prefers to be called PrestoMan!

Paradox Presto is in Tryon NC with Kathy Nebel and working with French Dressage trainer David Donnelly. He has made great strides and is muscling up and developing more suspension. Here they are getting used to a full bridle, and they are hoping for the show ring soon.

Kathy Nebel reports of Presto in Dec 2014: "Presto's training as a four year old was interrupted by a difficult to diagnose muscle injury. Now at five, he is getting back on track. He has changed tremendously in the past year, losing his young horse look and filling out. He was trained to ground drive over the summer and is now back to work."

Presto and Kathy Dec 2012

Presto just celebrated his one year anniversary with Kathy Nebel. He was started by a Gary Biggerstaff, a local equine dentist who studies with the legendary Ray Hunt. He surprised Kathy by hopping on Presto and taking off riding up hill and down for the first two days. Since then Kathy has been trail riding Presto and doing dressage with Ashley Parsons. Presto has a laid back attitude and does not get ruffled by much, He can be a tad lazy, but is learning to step up and put in some effort in his lesson. He has a nice trot but his canter needs work- no surprise for a 3 1/2 year old. She also think he shows promise for foxhunting.
Paradox Presto was been started under saddle in June 2012 by a cowboy in Tryon NC after a month of groundwork by Kathy Nebel. They have moved up to group hacks and she has ridden him for the first time and said he is green and squirmy, but calm and paying attention to his rider. They did a wide creek and wooden bridge and survived a deer crossing. Nice work Kathy and Presto.

Paradox Presto was sold to Kathy Nebel in Charlotte, NC in Nov 2011. He will join her two older buckskin Connemaras, Tuckaseegee's Dundee and Balmullo's Dundee (aka Gaetyr) as well as a retired draft cross. She plans to do some dressage and trail with him.

Right: Gaetyr on the near side and Dundee beyond as they get to know Presto.

P
aradox Presto had a great time at the ACPS Region 1 show in July 2011 and came home with the Morning Cadence Young Stock Trophy which his cousin TH Breeze won three years in a row. He is 14.2 hands at 2, he is still sweet and eager to please, with big strides, good feet, easy loading and clipping etc. He has been longed and long lined and is ready for a real job.

In June 2011 Paradox Pesto headed off to boot camp at Burkland Farms, a renowned Morgan farm in Rowley Mass. There, Josh Noble is working on clipping, ground work, lunging, long lining, traffic, etc. He is much more shined-up and mature and sophisticated. He will be back in time for the Region 1 show in Woodstock VT. He looks to be well over 14 hands at two.

At 14 hands, Paradox Presto is a big yearling with a sweet manner and nice movement. He has a pretty face and good feet, he self loads, and he is always the first one to come looking for a hug or a pat.

Paradox Presto has received his USEF lifetime registration, and was weaned in October 2009. I had his colors done at UC Davis and he is a smokey black like his dam, so he is a black with a dilute gene. He has a BEC gelding friend coming to keep him company for the winter. He is big and elegant.

Paradox Presto was only 1 week late, arrived as soon as his brother Connor had left home. He is Carmody's 5th dilute foal, the first one with her star. Mcduff has had mostly filles, two stallion sons are Ballywhim Ardan McMor who is at Lendon Grey's and does upper level dressage, and JEF Sir Lancelot, a black stallion in Kansas who is doing well eventing.
